Memory capabilities are equally impressive, with 32 DDR5 DIMM slots supporting as much as 8 TB of high-speed memory, ensuring responsiveness and bandwidth for compute-heavy applications. The R770’s storage architecture is built for versatility: you can equip it with a mix of SAS, SATA, or NVMe drives, including the latest E3.S Gen5 NVMe SSDs in configurations ranging from eight to as many as forty drives—delivering massive capacity and blazing-fast performance. The R770 also offers boot optimization storage via the BOSS-N1 controller, enabling dual NVMe drive configurations without compromising front-bay capacity

The R770’s design emphasizes expansion and fluid adaptability. It offers up to eight PCIe Gen 5 slots and two OCP 3.0 slots, making it a future-ready platform for high-bandwidth networking, GPUs, and other accelerators. This flexibility is further enhanced by modular chassis options tailored for airflow and hot-aisle or cold-aisle deployments, and it supports both air and direct liquid cooling to meet performance and thermal design goals.

In terms of manageability and security, the R770 integrates Dell’s advanced iDRAC10 with hardware-level root of trust, multi-factor authentication, secure boot, and firmware validation. Its compatibility with the OpenManage Enterprise suite allows IT teams to centrally manage infrastructure, deploy configurations at scale, and integrate with AIOps platforms for predictive analytics and automated operations.

Lustre Storage

Lustre is an opensource high performance parallel filesystem used in many HPC installations worldwide.

Although it lacks many of the data management features of commercially supported alternatives, it can often outperform them on the same hardware. This can make it an attractive solution for HPC scratch storage in financially constrained environments.

We are also able to offer DDN’s feature enhanced EXAScalar solution based on Lustre with commercial support.

IBM Storage

At its core IBM Storage Scale is a massively scalable parallel filesystem with the enterprise grade reliability expected of IBM products. Its robust set of features expand this into a fully-fledged data management platform capable of maintaining many petabytes of data across a diverse range of storage technologies including flash, disk, tape and cloud.

We commonly deploy this as appliances integrated with IBM, Lenovo or DDN hardware however the software is vendor agnostic allowing us to architect solutions to meet requirements across a range of hardware platforms.

It is highly versatile and our team of expert storage engineers can configure it to be well suited to almost any workload.

IBM Storage

Storage Ceph offers a massively scalable unified block, file and object storage platform built on easy to manage standard rack servers. It is vendor agnostic and can run on a heterogeneous server estate.

IBM Storage Ceph combines this with the enterprise grade security, reliability and automation from the Red Hat Linux range to offer a truly enterprise ready solution.

It can provide cloud native storage to support virtualisation or containerised environments, as well as supporting “data lakes” of many petabytes of unstructured data, or geo-dispersed environments.

IBM Storage Deep Archive empowers tape storage to be effective across a range of workloads. We primarily use this as a management layer for IBM tape storage, for example presenting a tape library as a tier to IBM Storage Scale.

BeeGFS Software

BeeGFS is a flexible easy to use parallel filesystem able to meet a range of design goals.

It can be deployed on standard x86 server hardware or a combination of that and storage arrays. Different storage pools can be combined into a single filesystem such as flash or hard disks, anything that can be mounted in Linux really.

Its intelligent use of in-memory caching can deliver extreme performance at a low cost where high availability is not required. Alternatively high availability can be achieved by mirroring between servers, or if shared storage arrays are used then pacemaker based failover can be used.

BeeGFS is a great cost-effective choice for scratch storage, however for longer term file storage with greater availability requirements we would consider alternatives such as IBM Storage Scale, Lustre, or Ceph.
